One Day Workshop on Educational Robotics, Acireale, Catania (Italy)
 1 June 2006 

To be held in conjunction with EUROBOT 2006

Organised by :

EUROBOT Association
IEEE Robotics & Automation Society Italian Chapter
IEEE Robotics & Automation Society Educational Committee


The 9th EurobotOpen Competition (Final round of the European robotic
competitions, following national Cups held in Austria, Belgium, Czech
Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Serbia, Spain, Switzerland, etc.) will be
organized from 1 to 3 June 2006 in the town of Acireale (Catania), Italy.

In continuation with past years, the participation of more than 65 teams is
expected, gathering from more than 27 countries, including at most the 3
best teams of each nation, coming from Europe or from the rest of the world
( http://www.eurobot.org/  ).

This year the competition has been inserted by the European Commission among
the events of the European Science Week initiative.

During this event, a one day Workshop with the title “Educational robotics”
is also planned , in full synergy with robotic competitions and some other
extraordinary local events.

The Workshop aims at exchanging expertise in the currently most advanced
scientific and technological issues relating to the field of educational
robotics, with the focus to foster innovation and the improvement of current
best practices. 

Therefore, recommended topics include but are not restricted to::

- Robotic curriculum
- Robotic competitions
- Robotic in schools
- Edutainment
- Museum robots
- Robotic kits
- Software for educational robotics
- Roboethics
- Connections between Real robotics and Science fiction robotics

The Workshop and the competitions will be hosted at the wonderful conference
center of La Perla Ionica (www.laperlaionica.it  ).  A special rate has been
arranged for people attending the workshop or the competition.

The proceedings of the event will be published on a CD-ROM and will be
distributed during the event. 

Prospective authors are kindly asked to submit a 400 word extended abstracts
in English (the official language of the conference) within 28 February 2006
to the e-mail address: mfrasca at diees.unict.it   

Only high-level original contributions will be accepted on the basis of a
careful reviewing procedure. Both papers and posters will be allocated an
equal number of pages in the proceedings. 
The schedule of events will have the following deadlines: 

-	28 February 2006 Deadline for receipt of an abstract
-	31 March 2006      Acceptance decision
-	30 April 2006 Deadline for submitting the final paper
-	1 June 2006 Workshop
