Workshop WS-7
"Physical Human-Robot Interaction in Anthropic Domains"

to be held in conjunction with the
2006 IEEE/RSJ Int. Conf. on Robots and 
Intelligent Systems (IROS'06) in Beijing, October 
9-15, 2006

This initiative stems from the European 
Perspective Research Project 
<http://www.piaggio.ccii.unipi.it/phridom/index.htm>PHRIDOM.

If you are actively doing research in the area of 
physical Human-Robot Interaction (pHRI), we 
invite you to submit a contribution and 
participate to the workshop.

Contributions should be submitted as pdf by email 
to Antonio Bicchi or Alessandro De Luca, by 
August 1, 2006.

The format is rather free (you can prepare a 
manuscript following the IROS conference style), 
with a maximum length of 12 pages. Timeliness in 
exchanging on-going research results and ideas is 
one of the driving factors of workshops. 
Therefore, submission of even preliminary or 
informal work is encouraged. Also, extended 
versions of IROS'06 papers will be considered. 
Finally, state-of-the-art surveys in the topical 
areas below are welcome.

Topics for contributions include but are not limited to:

·        Safety analysis and injury indices in human-robot interaction
·        Lightweight robot design for safety
·        Antagonistic and other innovative compliant actuation
·        Variable impedance actuators
·        Sensor fusion for whole-arm supervision
·        Fault tolerant robotic systems
·        Planning safe and dependable robot motion
·        Real-time collision anticipation in human environments
·        Collision detection and robot reaction strategies
·        Mechanical-control co-design
·        Motion control in the presence of variable compliance
·        Standards in physical human-robot interaction

We will select by August 15 the best 
contributions, based on their quality and 
relevance, so as to make this workshop a special 
event.

The final material to be distributed as a package 
to the workshop participants is due by September 
15.

The half-day workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, 
October 10, afternoon, at IROS'06.
