Conference Description
**************************
The Haptics Symposium is an annual, single-track conference that brings
together researchers in diverse engineering and human science disciplines
who are interested in the design, analysis, and evaluation of systems that
display haptic (force and touch) information to human operators. High
quality, original papers are solicited in all areas of haptics. The papers
are peer reviewed, and accepted papers are selected for either oral or
poster presentation. Papers have the option of being published in the IEEE
proceedings. Industry-sponsored awards are given. Short sketch papers are
also sought. Sketches are extended abstracts with significant or new but
possibly incomplete ideas and results, and are eligible for poster
presentation only. Hands-on demonstrations (with abstract) and company
exhibits are also solicited.

This symposium aims to bring together the diverse disciplines that will
contribute to advances in the field of haptics, including biomechanics,
psychology, neurophysiology, engineering, and computer science. Topics of
interest include, and are not limited to:
- Human factors
- Psychophysics and perception
- Biomechanics and motor control
- Mechanism design
- Control system design and analysis
- Dynamics
- Haptic rendering and modeling algorithms

Areas of application include, but are by no means limited
to: Teleoperation (e.g., space exploration, undersea operations,
microsurgery and minimally-invasive surgery, hazardous waste clean- up) and
Virtual Environments (e.g., critical procedure training, computer-aided
design and prototyping, data visualization, human-computer interaction, and
rehabilitation).

The Haptics Symposium is sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society Technical
Committee on Visualization and Graphics, and is affiliated with the
Technical Committee on Haptics
(<http://www.worldhaptics.org/>http://www.worldhaptics.org/). It is held in
conjunction with the 2008 IEEE Virtual Reality Conference (March 8-12,
2008,
<http://conferences.computer.org/vr/2008/>http://conferences.computer.org/vr/2008/).

Paper Submission
********************
There are two classes of papers that may be submitted to the Haptics
Symposium:
(1) Regular papers that can be up to 8 pages in length and are considered
for oral and poster presentations at the conference. (Regular papers should
contain high-quality original research.)
(2) Sketches that are up to 2 pages in length and are considered for poster
presentations. (In contrast to regular papers, sketches can present fresh
but incomplete ideas.)

The submission site is now open for the 2008 Haptics Symposium. The site
address is:

Please register and follow the prompted instructions to complete your paper
submission by September 28, 2007.

Solicitation for Qualified Reviewers
**************************************
The organizing committee of the Haptics Symposium is seeking qualified
reviewers and invite people to volunteer as reviewers. People may volunteer
as a reviewer using the same website that is used for paper submissions.
After registering, simply follow the reviewing link on your user home
page. Simply follow the instructions to provide information on your
expertise, so that the committee can understand your areas of expertise.
You will be notified if you are selected to be a reviewer and papers are
assigned for you to review. Expert reviews help us maintain the quality of
the Haptics Symposium, as well as provide authors with valuable critical
feedback.

Prospective reviewers, please note the following dates:
- Sept. 28 (deadline for registering as a reviewer)
- Oct. 2 (reviewing phase begins)
- Nov. 2 (final reviews due)
