Dear Colleague,

The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) has currently opened a
call for proposals to Japanese researchers for collaborative research
with US PI's in the area of Robotics with applications in advancing
safety, security and/or better quality of life. For the Japanese PI to
be funded requires that their proposal be technically sound and that
there be a US research collaborator who:

* EITHER has an active NSF grant in a related IIS area and who
submits no later than 17 December 2010 a request for supplemental
funding (up to $50K) to enable the US-Japan collaboration

* OR submits a related proposal, including costs related to the
US-JAPAN collaboration, to NSF CISE/IIS Program Solicitation NSF 10-571,
Small Project Category, or to another related NSF IIS program no later
than 17 December 2010

* AND informs CISE/IIS Program Director Thomas C. Henderson no
later than 17 December 2010 of the submission of a supplement request or
proposal to enable the US-Japan collaboration.

NSF proposals will be reviewed in the regular process of the specific
program to which the proposal is submitted, with the international
component factored in as well (OISE support, particularly of student
activities, may also be available -see
http://www.nsf.gov/div/index.jsp?div=OISE
<http://www.nsf.gov/div/index.jsp?div=OISE> ).

For more information, please contact: Thomas C. Henderson
(thenders at nsf.gov).

Best regards,

   Tom Henderson
