TALLINN JUNE 20 - 23, 2011

Conference Theme: Robotics is a synergistic discipline merging
discoveries and inventions from various fields of science and
technology. With inspiration from other disciplines we are able to build
new kinds of robots that can serve humans in interesting and novel ways.

The theme of ICAR 2011 is New Boundaries for Robotics. It will seek to
share innovative ideas, weird connections, and unexpected mixes of
technologies, methods and approaches which have been applied to solve
new kinds of problems in emerging application areas.

The technical program of ICAR 2011 will consist of plenary talks,
workshops, oral presentations and interactive sessions. Submitted papers
should describe original work in the form of theoretical modeling,
design, experimental validation, or case studies from all areas of
robotics but in particular focusing on new emerging paradigms and
application areas including but not limited to:

Cognitive control in robotics
New materials in robotics
Robotic human companions
Bio-inspired actuation mechanisms
Bio-inspired sensors and sensing paradigms
Biomimetic and bio-inspired robots
Wearable robots and enhanced embodiment
Dexterous object manipulation
Embodiment and morphological computing in robotics
Cumulative robot learning and cumulative knowledge representation
Evolutionary and self-assembling robots
Self-awareness of robots and robot teams
Multimodal interfaces for human robot interaction
Models of natural and robot cognition
Emergent behavior in robotic systems
Robots for arts, entertainment and social interaction
Performance evaluation, benchmarking and standardization of
intelligent robotic systems

Submitted manuscripts undergo full-paper peer review. The accepted
papers will be published in IEEE Explore, indexed by ISI Proceedings and EI.

Special Issue in Journal of Robotics and Autonomous Systems - Select
papers from the Proceedings of ICAR 2011 will also be published in a
special issue of the Journal of Robotics and Autonomous Systems (JRAS).
Selection of the candidate papers will be based on the novelty,
significance, and clarity of the work; in particular, they shall well
reflect the theme of New Boundaries for Robotics. The authors of these
papers will be encouraged to submit an enhanced version of their work to
this special issue, which will be subject to the same peer-review
process required by JRAS before acceptance for publication

Important dates:
Workshop Submissions: *February 18, 2011* (extended deadline)
Paper Submissions: March 04, 2011
Notification of Acceptance: April 22, 2011
Final Submission: May 20, 2011

Tallinn is the capital of Estonia located in North-East of Europe and a
cultural capital of Europe 2011. While being one of the most intact
UNESCO protected medieval city centers in the world, it is also one of
the world's most intelligent communities providing cutting-edge
technical solutions for the inhabitants and visitors of the city. Summer
2011 in Tallinn offers the participants of ICAR 2011 a creative
environment for idea exchanges with hundreds of artistic and cultural
events, Midsummer celebration and white nights.
