Dear Colleagues,

The *International Workshop on Bio-Inspired Robots* will be held *April
6-8, 2011 *at the *Ecole des Mines de Nantes, France.*
See http://www.emn.fr/z-dre/bionic-robots-workshop

The workshop features a wonderful list of keynote speakers:

*Paolo Dario*, Scuola Superiore Santa'Anna, I
*Frederic Boyer*, Ecole des Mines de Nantes, F
*Hao Liu*, Chiba University, JP
*Nicolas Franceschini*, CNRS/Aix-Marseille Université, F
*Sten Grillner*, Karolinska Institutet, S
*Michael S. Triantafyllou*, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MechE, US
*Eva Kanso*, University of Southern California, US
*Simon Thorpe*, CerCo UMR 5549, CNRS, F
*Shigeo Hirose*, Tokyo Institute of Technology, JP
*Angel Caputi*, Instituto de Investigaciones Biologicas Clemente Estable, UY

The theme of the workshop is: « Bio-inspired Robots », reflecting
growing interests in developing autonomous robots inspired from animals.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
. Underwater locomotion (swimming like fishes...)
. Aerial locomotion (flying like insects...)
. Terrestrial locomotion (creeping like snakes...)
. Bio-inspired sensing (seeing like flies...)
. Neuro-inspired control
. Energetics

Authors are invited to submit *extended abstracts*. The best abstracts
will be selected for oral or poster presentation. Authors of the best
abstracts will be invited to submit their manuscripts for a special
issue in Bioinspiration & Biomimetics journal. For general and technical
program inquiries about the workshop, please contact the workshop
General Chair and/or Program Committee by email at brw at mines-nantes.fr

*Abstracts*: All abstracts must be submitted electronically in PDF
format by*February 15, 2011*. Detailed instructions for abstract
submission can be found on the workshop web site. Authors are encouraged
to provide a link to their websites for a better understanding of their

*Live demonstrations*: Proposals of robot demonstration must be
submitted to the Tutorial Workshop Chair by February 15, 2011. The
workshop can accommodate most forms of robot locomotion (e.g., walking,
swimming, climbing, flying, etc). More information on the workshop venue
can be found on the workshop website.

*Important deadlines:*

*February 15, 2011 Submission of Abstracts
February 15, 2011 Submission of Demos
March 1, 2011 Notification for acceptance
