(Please replace my previous announcement which had an error)

Due to the situation in Japan, the call for papers for the International
Journal of Robotics Research Special Issue on Robot Vision is extended
to 26 April 2011. The announcement and the other timelines
are as follows:

Guest Editors:

Greg Hager Johns Hopkins University, USA
Danica Kragic Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden

Robotics and vision research is seeing increasing success at
understanding and interacting with the physical world. Within the
vision community, 3D sensors are providing new possibilities for
perception, and there is an increasing appreciation of the need to view
objects within their 3D, physical context. Within the robotics
community, there is a growing interest in manipulation in
unstructured environments which places strong constraints on the
robustness, timeliness and reliability of vision algorithms.

As the third in the series, this special issue on Vision for Robotics
seeks to focus on new methods in computer vision and vision-based
robotics that enable reliable interaction with the 3D world. Topics of
interest include:

• Vision-based manipulation
• 3D scene modeling
• Apprehension and modeling of articulate and deformable objects
• Active vision
• Sequential or time-series solutions to vision problems including
   visual tracking
• Vision-based navigation or path planning
• Integration or fusion of vision with other sensing modalities
• Vision-based control
• Robust vision techniques
• Metrics for performance and robustness of vision systems
• Novel visual sensors
• Novel computational algorithms and architectures
• Robot vision applications

Experimental results are particularly encouraged. Please note that the
Journal has no page limit on papers and is a leader in archival
publishing of multimedia - data sets, code and videos with
papers. All papers will be reviewed by a minimum of 2 reviewers.
