Call For Papers* *

*Special Session on Collective Robotics: Hardware and Software (CR-HS)*

International Conference on Intelligent Robotics and Applications (ICIRA
2011)

6-9 December 2011, Aachen, Germany
http://www.icira2011.org/

*Description and Objective
*Collective robotics studies the different ways of using autonomous robot
teams to efficiently perform missions. The question which will be raised in
this session is that of transition from individual robotics to collective
robotics. Why? How? And what is still possible to offer to scientific
research and robotics in this field?
The collective robotics borrows its knowledge from different disciplines:
mathematics and logic (formalization, modeling of collective behaviors),
engineering (development of increasingly complex microprocessors,
development of new cooperative architectures, new sensors, new communication
tools, etc.), neurosciences (comprehension of the brain, new methods dealing
with computational collective intelligence), biology and Natural Science
(living observation, bio-inspiration, stigmergy, etc.), psychology
(validation of theories in relation to the memory functioning, language,
individual an collective behavior, etc.), linguistics (models of interactive
language handling), social Sciences (studies of collective behavior and
adaptation to environment, interaction strategies and protocols, etc.),
philosophy (questions related to the thought character).

The aim of this session is to bring together researchers in hardware and
software multirobot systems; it helps us exchange innovative ideas in
designing collective robots and also in applying computational collective
intelligence, and benefit the progress of each research theory and
application.
