FAIM 2013 - Workshop on Robotics in Smart Manufacturing

Robots are increasingly being used in advanced/smart manufacturing environments as a key element for the manufacturing process itself, and, with applications in diverse traditional and non-traditional areas. In this workshop, we will particularly focus on new and emerging areas of application of robots in the manufacturing world (micro- and nano-manufacturing, manufacturing of composite materials and solar cells, laser-based manufacturing, etc.), new methods to interact with robots and how we can make them more autonomous in their tasks. Recent innovations in human-robot interfaces and robot autonomy have led to the emergence of more and more robots operating in advanced manufacturing systems. These smart manufacturing systems are not created by decree or with the purpose of recreating science fiction. On the contrary, they emerged due to market demands for cheaper, diversified and better quality products. 

The aim of this workshop is to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to review, discuss and present the recent developments, and to identify possible directions for further developments in the field. Both papers containing fundamental research and application-oriented studies are welcome.
