ICRA 2013 Workshop on Combining Task and Motion Planning

    May 6, 2013

    Karlsruhe, Germany

***************************************************

Combined task and motion planning is becoming increasingly important due to
the recognition that a diverse set of applications - e.g., navigation,
manipulation, search-and-rescue, game design, air-traffic control, and
surgical procedures - involve reasoning with both discrete actions and
continuous motions. The problem poses unique computational challenges: a
vast hybrid discrete/continuous space must be searched while accounting for
complex geometries, physical constraints, motion dynamics, collision
avoidance, and robot-environment interactions. As a result, continued
progress relies on an integrative approach that brings together techniques
from robotics, AI, machine learning, logic, and hybrid systems.

*** Objectives ***

This full-day workshop aims to bring together researchers from Robotics and
AI to highlight recent progress and open problems in the area of combined
task and motion planning. We are soliciting two types of contributions:

- Papers (4-6 pages) for oral presentation

- Extended abstracts (2 pages) for interactive poster presentation

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

- Applications, such as video games and training simulations,
search-and-rescue, manipulation, legged robots, and surgical planning

- Closing the perception-planning loop

- Planning with kinodynamic constraints

- Manipulation planning

- Planning under uncertainty

- Multi-robot planning

- Classical, HTN, temporal logics, and timeline-based planning

- CSP-based reasoning

- Decision-theoretic planning

- Optimal or approximately optimal planning

- Planning software tools

*** Invited speakers ***

- Rachid Alami, LAAS/CNRS, France

- Maria Fox, King's College London

- Emilio Frazzoli, MIT

- Leslie Pack Kaelbling, MIT

- Steven M. LaValle, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign

- Bernhard Nebel, University of Freiburg

- Wheeler Ruml, University of New Hampshire

*** Important dates ***

Mar. 17: Paper submission deadline

Mar. 25: Notification of paper acceptance

Mar. 29: Final version due

May 6: Workshop date

Poster abstract submissions will continue to be accepted until April 12.
However, late submissions will only be hosted on the workshop website rather
than the official ICRA 2013 Workshop Proceedings.
