Call for Papers
Scope and Topics
i-SAIRAS 2014 seeks papers on:
• In-space/in-orbit demonstration of robotics and AI systems
• Field work using autonomous systems and space robotics concepts in
terrestrial analogues
• Laboratory demonstration of advanced AI/robotics concepts for space missions
• Technology transfer to and from terrestrial applications

The main topics to be covered by the symposium include but are not limited to:
• Spacecraft autonomy: Onboard software for mission planning and
execution, resource management, fault protection, science data
analysis, guidance, navigation and control, smart sensors, testing and
validation, and architectures;
• Artificial intelligence for space systems:
• Mission operations automation: Decision support tools (for mission
planning and scheduling, anomaly detection and fault analysis),
innovative operations concepts, data visualization, secure commanding
and networking.
• Robotics technologies for space missions including: mobility,
manipulation, end effectors and tools, sensing and robot vision,
navigation, control, robot-friendly payload design, support equipment
and ground segments;
• Robotics and automation for space systems:
• Technology for space laboratory automation, payload control systems,
data communications, imaging, user interfaces, tele-presence and
tele-operation.
• Application scenarios (e.g. planetary and asteroid exploration,
space-based assembly, inspection and servicing, external and internal
payload tending, human-robot interaction), programmatic and
utilization aspects.

Abstract Submissions
Prospective authors should submit PDF versions of a 2 page abstract
using the standard i-SAIRAS 2014 template.
Paper acceptance is based solely on the submitted abstracts. Detailed
information is available in the conference web site.

Paper Presentations
Papers will be presented either during oral sessions or a poster
session. At paper submission, authors will be asked to select their
preferred presentation mode. Oral presentations will last 25 minutes
including the question period and transition to the next speaker. The
language of the workshop will be English. All submissions must be in
English.

Important Dates
• Abstract Submission Deadline: December 15, 2013
