Call for papers: Journal of Medical Robotics Research
Special Issue on Rehabilitation Robotics

Aims and Scope:

Over the years robotic applications have rapidly expanded from classical industrial applications to applications with close human-robot interaction. Rehabilitation Robotics can be regarded as one of the main robotic fields where human-robot interaction plays a paramount role, at physical as well as at cognitive level, going towards a symbiotic interaction where human body and robots can benefit from each other’s dynamics. Rehabilitation robots include therapy robots, which provide therapy for persons seeking to recover their physical, social, communication or cognitive function, and assistive robots, which assist persons who have a chronic disability to accomplish activities of daily living.
The field of rehabilitation robotics has gained a growing interest in the last decades, with an increasing number of commercially available systems and highly sophisticated research platforms that are grounded on a pervasive multidisciplinary design approach, e.g. adaptive bio-cooperative systems, therapy robots coupled with neuroimaging and neuromodulation systems, and soft robotic systems.

This special issue focuses on the new cutting-edge and representative advancements in design, control, analysis, implementation, and validation of rehabilitation robotic systems. Original and unpublished high-quality research results are solicited to explore and boost the new areas relevant to Rehabilitation Robotics. Multidisciplinary papers are highly encouraged for submission. This special issue also encourages submission of clinical evaluation studies that are within the aforementioned scope.


The topics of the special issue include, but are not limited to:
• Upper-limb Rehabilitation robotics
• Lower-limb Rehabilitation robotics
• Multimodal human-machine interfaces
• Assistive robotics
• Wearable robotics
• Robotic Prostheses and Orthotics
• Telerehabilitation
• Mobility aids for locomotion and navigation
• Automated manipulation systems, including remote manipulation of objects and robotic aids for feeding, personal hygiene, etc.
• Technological aids for communication and social interaction
• Personal robotics
• Biomechanics of human motion and gait
• Elderly care assistive robots

There is no page charge for publication in JMRR.
