Call for paper: Journal of Medical Robotics Research
Special Issue on Robot-assisted Surgery and Therapy


The goal of this special issue is to solicit papers in the area of
robot-assisted surgery and therapy aimed at improving the accuracy and
outcomes of procedures. Currently, there is a need to develop novel
sensors, actuators, and tools for surgery and therapy to make the
procedures more accurate, as there are still severe limitations, for
example, in therapeutic procedures involving ablation, radiotherapy,
and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU). To enable accurate
assessment and improved outcomes of robot-assisted surgery and
therapy, it is also important to analyze and implement accurate tool
tracking, potentially under image guidance as well as estimation of
tissue properties for organ motion and energy distribution analysis.
This special issue also encourages submission of clinical evaluation
studies that are within the above-mentioned scope.


The topics of the special issue include, but are not limited to:

1.   Robot-assisted surgical systems
2.   Novel sensors and actuators for surgery and therapy
3.   Percutaneous interventions
4.   Meso-scale robotic systems for surgery and therapy
5.   In-situ targeted/controlled drug delivery
6.   Compensation for organ motion and environmental uncertainties in
surgery and therapy
7.   Clinical assessment and outcomes
