*Bioinspired Soft Robotics: /How animals and plants help build soft robots/*

Full-day workshop at ICAR 2015, July 31, 2015 (http://icar2015.org/)

Don't miss your opportunity to discuss and be involved in Soft Robotics!

WORKSHOP ORGANIZERS:

Cecilia Laschi, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, The BioRobotics Institute, Italy

Barbara Mazzolai, Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, Center for
Micro-BioRobotics, Italy

WORKSHOP ABSTRACT

Soft Robotics is a growing area of research, at international level.
Projects and publications in this field are increasing at a fast pace
and an interdisciplinary active community is growing around this field.
Such community is gathering around the IEEE TC on Soft Robotics and, at
European level, around the RoboSoft Coordination Action, funded by the
European Commission in the FET Open programme (http://www.robosoftca.eu/).

This workshop aims at giving a view on the latest achievements in the
field of soft robotics, through invited talks, showing how not only
animals but also plants can provide important principles and concepts
for developing new technologies.

Taking advantage of the well-coordinated soft robotics community, a part
of the workshop will consist of presentations and videos by members of
the community, selected through an open call. This part is especially
intended to encourage the participation of young community members.

In addition to this, the workshop will devote a consistent part of time
to a critical discussion on the potential and perspectives of
bioinspired soft robotics. In order to stimulate and moderate the
discussion, as well as widening the scope of the critical issues
addressed, a PROFESSIONAL SCIENTIFIC JOURNALIST chairs this session,
with experience in communicating robotics research and soft robotics.
ALL ATTENDEES ARE INVITED TO SHARE THEIR VIEWS!

           CALL FOR VIDEOS

******************************

**

An open call is launched for participation in the workshop for young
researchers in soft robotics, including students, for presentation of
research in bioinspired soft robotics through VIDEOs.

Please take this opportunity to show your latest results in a video (5
to 10 minutes) to the speakers and audience of the workshop and to
actively participate to the discussion in the lively community of soft
robotics.

PLEASE NOTIFY YOUR INTEREST IN PARTICIPATION BY REPLYING TO
cecilia.laschi at sssup.it <mailto:cecilia.laschi at sssup.it>and
barbara.mazzolai at iit.it <mailto:barbara.mazzolai at iit.it>.

A short description and a draft of the video is enough at this stage.

The final version of the video will be requested by the end of June.
