*** Workshop on Cognitive robotics as interdisciplinary science ***
IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) 2015
supported by IEEE RAS Technical committee on Cognitive Robotics

The importance of the research field on cognitive robotics has long been
recognized and is now rapidly increasing
according to the recent demand for robots being able to interact safely
with humans in everyday situations.

Cognitive robotics basically requires merging the two following streams
of research: how to implement physical systems
specifically designed for interaction with unconstrained environments
and how to design control architectures
taking explicitly into account the need to acquire and use experience.
The first aspect usually refers mainly to robotics research
while the second has its core activities in cognitive science and
artificial intelligence.

To establish Cognitive Robotics as a solid research field merging these
research fields,
we created a TC Cognitive Robotics called CORO for encouraging the
discussing with the researchers belonging in these fields.

This workshop is the first event of CORO. Therefore, we are planning to
invite the key persons from the related research field
such as TC humanoid robots, TC robot learning and IEEE Computational
intelligent society, and hold the panel discussion
with them and CORO initial members and co-chairs after the talks on
cognitive robots and science representing their fields.
Through these discussions, we aim at clarifying and showing the problems
of cognitive robotics existing across the multiple research fields.
