special issue to *30th **November 2016*. If you plan to submit a paper, 
please send us as soon as possible a mail providing title, a tentative 
abstract and the keywords of your contribution, in order to speed up the 
reviewer selection process.

*Special Issue on Robot Perception for Intelligent Manufacturing*

The fourth industrial revolution, also known as Industry 4.0, is based 
on the pervasive introduction of intelligent systems in manufacturing 
processes to realize what is called “intelligent manufacturing”. This 
means more flexibility and more efficiency, and a better use of 
resources. One of the most exciting features is the capability of 
manufacturing custom products within mass production, satisfying diverse 
customization needs at a low cost. This is the essence of mass 
customization. Perception plays a key role in this scenario, as it is 
the element enabling industrial systems to close the loop by checking 
the execution of production processes, and verify 100% of the produced 
items for achieving zero-defect manufacturing. Furthermore, reliable 
perception is the enabling technology for the cooperation between humans 
and robots in production, which is the new frontier for the industry.

The “Robot Perception for Intelligent Manufacturing” special issue of 
the journal will showcase the recent advances in perception applied to 
manufacturing processes and visual inspection.

Topics include, but are not limited to:


    Manufacturing processes with sensory feedback


    Visual inspection systems and quality control systems


    Intelligent inspection robots


    Sensing in human-machine interaction in industrial processes


    Augmented reality and/or haptic perception for human-machine
    interaction in industrial processes


    Perception and tracking of humans in industrial environments


    Localization and mapping for mobile robots in industrial environment
    (including mobile manipulators)


    Self-calibration of industrial robot systems


    Robot Perception for in-situ maintenance and repair


    Robot perception for large-scale maintenance


    Robot perception for dual arm manipulators


    Inspection tasks in extensive industrial plants

Papers describing the lesson learned in industrial projects or willing 
to disseminate exploitable results of research projects are welcome.

The International Journal on Advanced Robotic Systems (IJARS) is 
indexed, among the others, in SCOPUS and Thomson Reuters. In 2015 it had 
an Impact Factor of 0.615 and an H Index (Scopus) of 25. IJARS appliesan 
article processing charge of $1,100. However, if the work described in 
the paper was performed within an *EU FP7 project*which ended not before 
24 months from the acceptance date of the paper, authors are *eligible 
for financial support by the OpenAIRE funding scheme. *The International 
Journal on Advanced Robotic Systems satisfies the criteria requested by
