The Australian Centre for Field Robotics (ACFR) is based in the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering at The University of Sydney, and is dedicated to the research, development, application and dissemination of autonomous and intelligent robots and systems for operation in outdoor environments. The group has substantial experimental facilities including three laboratories and a field test site, a range of experimental and production vehicles, industry-quality mechanical and electrical design and fabrication facilities, and employs the latest in embedded computing, sensing and control technologies. The ACFR has a substantial agriculture and environment robotics research program in collaboration with a number of industry partners and government agencies. The projects range from individual sensing systems through to large-scale on farm automation. We are seeking highly motivated researchers who are interested in undertaking cutting edge research and development in intelligent perception systems including computer vision, on-field sensing systems, and machine learning, for application in real world environments. The successful candidate will work within an interdisciplinary team comprising of robotics and optimisation experts, scientists from agriculture and biology, and growers.
The projects include:


·         Multi-model intelligent perception systems for animal detection and classification / tree crop applications / row crop applications

The successful person will have:


·         A PhD in Robotics, Mechatronic Engineering, Computer Science or another related field

·         Research outputs and expert knowledge of state-of-the-art computer vision/multi-model sensing/perception algorithms

·         Expert knowledge in one or more of the following fields: perception, field robotics, multi-modal sensor fusion

·         Experience in software development with one or more of: Python, Bash, C++, Matlab
