2nd Annual $100,000 Robot Art Contest Opens to registration – September 20

The 2017 “2nd Annual” international robotic art competition with $100,000
in cash prizes is now open <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__robotart.org_register-2Dteam_&d=DQIFaQ&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=V3d9z4q-jrYyrz4YSkcJnINuHGEOiFSC7o9zHaGms_s&s=FtUL-kTPOsprDtcM9G2uIkm9mpwSecSiAm4PAyBDyDE&e= > for team
registration. The contest’s goal is to challenge teams to produce
something visually beautiful with robotics – that is, to have a robot use
physical brushes and paint to create an artwork. It is open to any
school, corporation, group or individual who has an appreciation for tech
and art.

Details and team/voter signup at https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__robotart.org&d=DQIFaQ&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=V3d9z4q-jrYyrz4YSkcJnINuHGEOiFSC7o9zHaGms_s&s=JGFU1eIIzFgYDmgS2tBlUYxaN43LujJqWeTzmY7NgIc&e= . <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__robotart.org_&d=DQIFaQ&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=V3d9z4q-jrYyrz4YSkcJnINuHGEOiFSC7o9zHaGms_s&s=BAt0pwaDI5TtPkwRPyJbhVasSZNlKQ4tn0MdLUmdjfw&e= >

There is no cost to enter and any robotic system can be used to produce the
artwork. While most teams are using existing robotic arms, the contest is
open to custom hardware. Teams can enter up to 6 paintings in each of the
competition categories of “original artwork” and “reinterpreted artwork”
where a reference image or existing artwork is used as a reference.

We will again have a combination of professional art critics, tech
celebrities, and the general public score the artwork. You can also signup
now to be notified when it’s time to come see the artwork submissions and
vote.

In last years competition, the expectations were modest – get as many teams
as possible to setup a robot that can do any sort of painting. I believe
that we succeeded. In total, there were 16 teams from 7 countries who
submitted over 70 different artworks!
