        Call for Participation

     European Robotics League (ERL)
     Industrial Robots

     Local Tournament:
         11.09 - 15.09.2017
         Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University
         Sankt Augustin, Germany

The European Robotics League is an innovative concept for robot
competitions. The ERL is composed of multiple "Local Tournaments",
held in different research labs across Europe, with certified test
beds, and a few competitions as part of "Major Tournaments" such as
RoboCup. Teams participate in a minimum of two tournaments (Local
and/or Major) per year and get scores based on their performances.
Scores of the best two participations in tournaments for each team are
added and teams are ranked based on their cumulative score. Prizes for
the top teams will be awarded during the next year's European Robotics
Forum (ERF). For more information, please visit

We are pleased to announce the first Local Tournament of the 2017
season on the ERL Industrial Robots (ERL-IR) challenge, to be held
between 11-15 September at the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied
Sciences (BRSU), Sankt Augustin, Germany. The ERL-IR tournament stems
from its predecessor, the RoCKIn at Work competition, and focuses on the
domain of industrial robotics in the Factory of the Future and also
deals with modern automation issues.

Important dates:

24 Aug 2017 - Deadline for application and request for travel support
      28 Aug 2017 - Qualification announcement
      11 Sep 2017 - Competition begin
      15 Sep 2017 - Competition closing

The rules of the competition will be an updated version of the latest
rules of the RoCKIn at Work 2015 competition. For the local ERL-IR
Tournament, only the following task- and functionality benchmarks will
be considered:

      - TBM: Fill a box
      - FBM 2: Manipulation
      - FBM 4: Navigation

The ERL-IR rule book can be found here:

Applicant teams must send an email to <industrial.robots at erl.rocks>
expressing their intention to participate in the Tournament and
providing the following information about the team:

      - Team name
      - Team leader name
      - Total number of team members (including the team leader)
      - Affiliation
      - Contact information (e-mail and phone of team leader)
      - Website
      - Team Description Paper (max. 4 pages, LNCS [3]) explaining the
team's approach to the technical challenges
including a brief description of software and hardware
architectures, and the relation with the team research –
including a list of relevant publications
      - Video showing evidence of some performance in the tasks and/or
functionalities of the challenge selected by the team
      - Filled travel support request form requesting and justifying
travel support, if needed

Selection Criteria:
Teams will be selected for participation and travel support based on

      - Team research quality, as measured from the TDP and list of
relevant publications
      - Number of available slots for team participation in the
tournament (max. 3 teams in this local ERL-IR tournament)
      - Team financial needs (as declared by the team request for
travel support)
      - Available funds for travel support (maximum of 2K€ per team per year)
