This full-day IROS workshop targets to cover the recent advancements in 
new robot design principles and control that target to reduce their 
energy consumption and lead to robots that are more efficient. This 
multidisciplinary workshop will therefore consist of a mixture of 
presentations divided into several relevant topics including:

Efficient novel compliant actuator topologies with large energy storage 
Parallel elastic and multi-articulated actuation
Switchable springs and variable recruitment actuation
Efficient actuation and motion control
Energy Economy of Human and Animals
Biomechanics of Human and Animal Locomotion
Variable stiffness and damping joints
Efficient transmission principles
Direct drive proprioceptive actuation
Motion energy regeneration and recycling
Excitation control of intrinsic resonance modes
Call for Contributions:

We invite submission of your contributions. We would like to focus on 
high quality presentations and interactions, and therefore we do not 
request to submit a full length paper. The selected contributions will 
be presented in a form of a poster accompanied by a 3 min teaser 
presentation during the workshop. In addition, we strongly encourage the 
contribution of live hardware demonstrations. The qualified demo 
proposals will be presented during a dedicated “Hands on” session where 
the participants of the workshop will have the opportunity to interact 
with some of the latest developments in Robotics hardware.

The proceedings of the workshop will be available online at this page. 
Additionally, the organizers, together with the speakers and the authors 
of selected abstracts, will write a tutorial paper for submission to 
Frontiers in Advances in Mechatronics and Biomechanics towards Efficient 
Robot Actuation.
