*Off to Japan to convince the Organization Committee*
The French delegation’s trip to Nagoya, Japan in July 2017 for the 21st
edition of the RoboCup is the first major milestone in the candidacy
process. Composed of the key players in the Steering Committee, this mission
will present a pre-candidacy to the trustees of the RoboCup committee and
will take in the full dimension of the event in situ.
During this trip, our delegation will be on hand to encourage the French
teams participating, including Rhoban, from the Informatics Research
Laboratory (LaBRI) at the University of Bordeaux, the defending world
champion in the “Football – small-scale humanoids” category.

*RoboCup: a worldwide competition *
After 21 years of existence, RoboCup has become the world’s most prestigious
robotics competition. Today, it brings together 45 countries, 450 teams,
3,500 participants and over 40,000 visitors. The original idea, in 1997, was
to design a team of robots capable of beating the "human" football world
champion team by 2050. Since then, RoboCup has opened up to other robotics
fields related to rescue efforts during disaster relief, logistics in
industry and household assistance. This event has thus become a global
laboratory where researchers and companies from around the world cooperate.

*The FFROB organizes “Bordeaux RoboCup 2020”*
The French Robotics Federation (FFROB) initiated this project to contribute
to its mission to promote the robotics competition at French training and
research institutions. Bordeaux RoboCup 2020 is destined to strengthen our
regions and make them more attractive to robotics companies. This project is
supported by Alain Rousset, President of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, by
Alain Juppé, President of Bordeaux Métropole, by Manuel Tunon de Lara,
President of the University of Bordeaux and by the Aquitaine Robotics
cluster, all of whom have committed to providing the necessary resources.

*Members of the "Bordeaux RoboCup 2020" Steering Committee*
This candidacy is led by a steering committee that brings together:
- The French Robotics Federation (FFROB)
- The Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region
- Bordeaux Métropole
- The University of Bordeaux
- The Bordeaux University Foundation
- Bordeaux INP Aquitaine
- LaBRI – The Bordeaux Informatics Research Laboratory
- The Bordeaux Board of Education
- Aquitaine Robotics Cluster
- Ligue de l’enseignement

In the words of Pierre Blazevic, President of the French Robotics
Federation, “Being able to organize the RoboCup in Bordeaux, France in 2020
is a one-of-a-kind adventure. Our delegation is going to do everything it
takes to present to the organizers the advantages of our candidacy and
showcase the excellence of French robotics.”
