The Robotics Department at the Institute for Infocomm Research, A*STAR, is looking for scientists to work on a project that aims to develop manipulation intelligence for an advanced multi-limb mobile manipulation robot. Details of the job openings can be found below.

Scientist (Mobile Manipulation)



You will be involved in some or all of the following tasks:

- Research and development on mobile manipulation and whole-body control

- Research and development of visual guided robot control for manipulation and navigation

- Realization of algorithms developed above into computational footprints that are suitable for deployment in robots including consideration of processing power and speed on an embedded processor, use of computationally efficient algorithms etc

- Actively collaborate with other researchers to solve any technical issues that arise when deploying the algorithms in real world scenarios


- Candidate must possess at least a Doctorate (PhD) in Computer Science/Information Technology, Science & Technology or  related fields;

- Possess relevant work experience in both control and image processing/computer vision

- Proficient in programming skill in these languages (C/C++, Python & Matlab);

- Possess good publication track records as evidence of research capability and innovative problem solving skills

- Possess good interpersonal, presentation and communication skills


Scientist (Dexterous Manipulation)



You will be involved in some or all of the following tasks:

- Research and development of new algorithms for grasping or robot hand to contact various objects and surfaces, yet safe to interact with human with force sensing or tactile feedback

- System integration to realize a functioning robot together with sensors, mobile platforms

- Actively collaborate with other researchers in testing, experimentations, and trouble-shootings the robots during testing and real-world trial deployments

- Closely collaborate with other researchers to conduct research on robotic grasping and perception, including tactile perception technology to create new robotic capabilities

- Realization of algorithms developed into computational footprints that are suitable for deployment in robots, including optimizing the algorithms to allow for real time processing or deployment in an embedded processor


- PhD in Electrical, Electronics, Computer or Mechanical Engineering

- Possess background in robotics

- Proficient in programming skills (C/C++ and Python)

- Possess good analytical skills, innovative and proven track record in solving problems encountered in projects that are relevant to robotics

- Experience with ROS is an advantage
