Dear Colleagues,
we are pleased to announce the 1st International Symposium on Aerial
Robotics to be held at the University of Pennsylvania on 19-21 June
website: https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__aerialrobotics.seas.upenn.edu_&d=DwICAg&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=BAc5xcAp296siR4mZwYoBrDcEklVyvG77C0Xb_pnsuM&s=dS0z59L27ZGWIv4k2mwf7MLqDNe4jaKllv2l-uuYBvc&e=
The symposium is an unique event in the field and it will highlight
advances in aerial robotics and provide opportunities to network with
robotics and drone experts in academia, government, and industry. Also
included will be a day of hands-on tutorials for robotics students.
In this spite, registration for students at any level is free or charge
and June 21 will be dedicated for presentations and hands-on tutorials
from our 2 sponsors Qualcomm and DJI.

We strongly encourage people in the community community to submit a 2
page abstract as specified below. The submission deadline ends friday
May 5 2017. This is a strict deadline and will not be extended due to
organization reasons.

A tentative program will be available shortly.
We have planned an impressive list of speakers and events both from
academia and industry.

Details for registration are available below. Please note that any
student can waive the registration fee as explained

The online registration procedure will be available till June 12.
The registration fee is $100 for anyone. Participants should register at
the link below.

Any student, at any level, can waive the registration fee. The student
needs to fill the form below and has to provide a letter of
participation from his advisor in pdf format. The letter has to confirm
the student status and explain why the participation is important for
his career. A confirmation of acceptance will be send shortly after the
More details are available at the link below

------------------ Motivation---------------
Autonomous micro Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are beginning to play
an important role in tasks like search and rescue, environment
monitoring, security surveillance, transportation and inspection. Small
scale size vehicles have to quickly and autonomously navigate in narrow
outdoor and indoor environments, in cities or other dense environments.
They must be able to actively explore unknown areas while avoiding
collisions by creating maps using on board sensors. This symposium will
address design and navigation solutions for UAVs. We expect to bring
together researchers from academia and industry in the area of control,
design, closed-loop control and navigation of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.

------------------ Call for Papers----------
The paper version should be a 2-page extended abstract in pdf standard
IEEE format. Accepted abstracts will be made available on the
website, and authors will be invited to give a presentation and present
their work.
We are currently exploring the possibility of a journal special issue
for the best contributions at the symposium.
