fortiss [1] is a research and transfer institute on software-intensive 
systems and services in Munich, Germany. It is an affiliated institute 
of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and an official institute of 
the Bavarian state. The competency area Robotics investigates solutions 
for flexible robotics and system integration as well as modern solutions 
for human-robot interaction. This includes distributed system 
architectures, semantic knowledge representation, planning and 
reasoning, intuitive user interfaces, and new communication 

We develop intelligent systems for robotics in the context of various 
projects with well-known research and industrial partners. The 
cooperation between human and robot enables entirely new ways of 
interaction and programming, especially for applications in small and 
medium-sized enterprises. Emerging technologies, such as 5G, enable new 
concepts for system architectures in combination with new possibilities 
and challenges with respect to algorithms, data structures, and 
distributed data processing.

We are expanding our research team with

Your responsibilities are:
- You work as part of a research team on exciting research projects
- You develop and evaluate software and algorithms for robot systems 
using C++ and Java
- You integrate solutions in physical robot demonstrators and test their 
real world applicability
- You develop comprehensive concepts and architectures for flexible 
robot systems

What we expect:
- An outstanding degree (M.Sc. or higher) in computer science
- Self-initiative, commitment, and a focus on applied research
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Knowledge of one or multiple of the following topics:
   o Software and system engineering for distributed systems
   o Efficient algrithms and data structures
   o Knowledge representation, description logics, and logical inference
   o Interaction management and task planning
- Excellent skills in object-oriented programming (C++ and Java)
- Excellent skills in distributed version control systems (e.g., Git)
- Experience with cross-platform programming (Windows/Linux)
- Excellent command of English and German
