postdoc fellowship in the framework of Labex ACTION

Its main 
goal is to create new assistive technologies and robotic tools to 
provide safety, dexterity, and efficiency of gastrointestinal cancer 
diagnosis. It is focused on the development of an endomicroscope for 
non-contact and non-invasive in vivo diagnosis with high resolution and 
reasonable penetration depth. This endomicroscope is based on an hybrid 
continuum robot and an OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) probe for 3D 
optical biopsy.

The research associated to the proposed postdoc fellowship is design, 
fabrication, and control of an hybride continuum robot with OCT scan 
capability. The postdoc fellow will pursue the previous developments in 
order to integrate preliminary results from the others members for the 
final demonstrator. Moreover, he will address the fabrication of an 
hybrid concentric tube robot with a electro-active polymer at the distal 
link. The use of embedded actuation enables to improve the robot 
dexterity and remove the stability issue for very long transmission 
lengths of concentric tube robots. The challenge of the research is to 
highlight the abilities of the endomicroscope to access confined spaces 
with high dexterity by applying robot control theory based on a 
realistic scenario. The fellow will have access to FEMTO-ST's 770m2 
cleanroom facilities and prototyping machines (3D printers, laser 
cutting, CNC etc.).

_*Required expertise:*_
The candidates are expected to have experience in two or more of the 
following areas: continuum robotics, surgical robotics, robot control, 
and mechatronic system design. Good communication and presentation 
skills, and a demonstrated track record of peer-reviewed publication are 
expected with a PhD in robotics or mechatronics.
