The newly-established Cognitive Medical Technology and Robotics (COMET) Laboratory at Worcester Polytechnic Institute is seeking outstanding and highly-motivated PhD students to conduct research in Medical Robotics. 

Available research themes include:

* Machine learning for autonomous and semi-autonomous surgical robotic systems
* Novel robotic instruments for ultra minimally-invasive surgery, with a focus on continuum designs
* Image-guided medical procedures
* Novel control methods for energy-based medical instruments (e.g. lasers)

QUALIFICATIONS

Ideal candidates are expected to have a strong academic background in one or more of the following areas - CS/ME/EE/Robotics - as well as the drive and creativity to build innovative lifesaving medical technologies. Research will involve continual interaction with clinical collaborators, thus exceptional communication skills are also required. Students with prior research experience are particularly encouraged to apply.
