Project Wing is working on self-flying vehicles that could open up entirely
new approaches to delivering goods and services—including options that are
cheaper, faster, less wasteful and more environmentally sensitive than
what’s possible today. Project Wing is a part of X.

As a Perception Engineer you will leverage your computer vision and/or
estimation experience to improve the senses of the aircraft so it can
safely operate around people, buildings and terrain. You are skilled at
fusing pixels and point clouds with other sensors to create robust
navigation solutions. You enjoy developing systems from concept through
production, and you have an eye for crafting practical solutions that work
reliably in the real world, not just the lab. You will work in a
multidisciplinary environment with direct access to our electrical,
mechanical, GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control), and embedded software
engineers.

Responsibilities

   - Develop solutions for visual odometry, obstacle sensing and navigation
   and global localization in GPS-challenged environments.
   - See your solutions through the entire life-cycle: concept, design,
   implementation, testing and evaluation, fielding and support.
   - Build the testing and analysis infrastructure required to validate
   your system and continuously monitor its performance.
   - Participate in the team's processes including requirement and design
   documentation, test-plan generation and execution, peer design and code
   reviews, process feedback and improvements.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:

   - Master's degree in Robotics, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering,
   Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
   - 3 years of experience working with visual odometry, visual SLAM/other
   techniques involving optimal estimation of camera motion/scene geometry
   from imagery with aerial or ground vehicles, and/or point cloud processing
   to build and update maps.
   - Experience in estimation, dynamics, and/or controls.
   - Experience programming in C/C++.


Preferred qualifications:

   - PhD in Robotics, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer
   Science.
   - Experience with two or more of the following: visual/inertial
   integration, aerial image registration, stereo vision and/or point cloud
   processing.
   - Experience developing algorithms that work with sensor data of
   autonomous vehicles and specifying, selecting, and integrating cameras and
   other sensors.
   - Experience with operating system fundamentals for embedded systems,
   networking and Linux.
   - Ability to collaborate with Software, Hardware and Mechanical teams.
   - Ability to design and write software-code developed according to a
   rigorous process and creating requirement/design documentation, test-plan
   generation and execution, peer design and code reviews and process feedback
   and improvements.
