The annual event aimed at engaging and growing the soft robotics research community has sparked considerable attention and amassed a number of global participants. In its three years of operation, the competition has seen over 500 participants, from over 250 teams from XX countries compete for prizes with submissions of their soft robotic devices and components. With three levels of eligibility, the prize for research category, the design competitions for high school and the college-level category, participants submit a detailed account of the design, fabrication, modeling and testing of the component or system they create using an online wiki platform.

The projects are judged by professionals and researchers within the field and a winner in each category is chosen. The best projects, featuring the most detailed design documentation and novel and innovative research ideas are added to the site as permanent features to the Soft Robotics Toolkit<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__softroboticstoolkit.com_&d=DwMFaQ&c=WO-RGvefibhHBZq3fL85hQ&r=PwXdrHdQv0UxUAfhI_ewIX6R0QMKFMFKkuEvqwP0b1U&m=sNhshC6qk0KjryDF9LEefPDsNzY2AZ_-ucaDCxPXOYU&s=ICFn_OD4_pRTKnH8LfwS47X_XOPxdVjD84Lpeu80Fms&e=>.
