We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral candidate with expertise in software engineering and robotics, to study formalisms and tools for the development of reactive robot behaviours for mobile manipulation with safety constraints. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in an exciting and young environment, in close interaction with research technicians, phd students and post-doctoral researchers in the iCub Facility department.

This position is supported by the project CARVE, which is funded by the Horizon 2020 EU project RobMoSys Grant Agreement 732410 through its first open call. RobMoSys envisions an industry-grade component development and integration ecosystem able to support the expectations of evolving robotics technology and applications. CARVE will extend the RobMoSys ecosytem coverage by providing Behavior Developers an agile formalism for describing robot behaviors that are simpler to understand, maintain and adapt to different application domains, fostering the creation of a "behavior market" that will complement the "component" market envisaged in RobMoSys. CARVE will make a step change towards the realization of certifiable, autonomous systems. This will further support the adoption of model driven software engineering in robotics, reducing debugging time, development cost, and time-to-market of robotic applications. CARVE will consider an assistive robotic scenario to be implemented with the R1 humanoid robot.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Robotics or equivalent and the following skills:
* Software Engineering
* Experience with mobile manipulation and navigation
* Strong knowledge of the C++ language
* Knowledge of robotic middleware like ROS or YARP

An internationally competitive salary, dependent on experience, will be offered.
