Deadline: May 15, 2018

The Laboratory for Product Development and Lightweight Design is currently looking for a research/teaching assistant to develop new technical solutions to contribute to a humanoid robot project (see www.roboy.org). Primary focus is on making the mechanical response, e.g., with respect to motion and force feedback, as human as possible. Therefore, a biomimetic approach is adopted using a musculoskeletal system rather than traditional motors in joints. Future activities will include the design of new parts, e.g., 3d-printed mechanical lightweight components. This shall be achieved by applying product development methods, innovation techniques, numerical optimization and prototyping.

==== About us ====
The Laboratory for Product Development and Lightweight Design at Technical University of Munich (TUM), focuses on the design and optimization of complex systems. We develop methods, tools and specific solutions to tech-nical problems with optimal functionality, weight and cost.

==== Tasks ====
• Supervise student innovation projects with Roboy team
• Develop new solutions to problems of humanoid robot mechanics & mechatronics
• Support lectures and lab exercises of product development curriculum
• Raise funding from industry or public sources
• Contribute to lab team projects

==== Required ====
• Master degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
• Solid knowledge of fundamentals of engineering mechanics and mechatronics
• Solid knowledge of product development and innovation methods
• Experienced in interdisciplinary design projects (please describe past projects)
•            Output-oriented, self-motivated & reliable work style (please explain)
• Fluent in German or strong commitment to learning German

==== We offer ====
• Room for new ideas and a stimulating environment to realize them
• Becoming part of the only open-source musculoskeletal humanoid robotics project – with collaborations with medical bioengineering, prosthetics, neuroscience, human-robot-collaboration and artificial intelligence
• Possibility to graduate with a PhD degree
• Full position as research/teaching assistant with salary according to E13
