Aim of the Forum
Since the time of da Vinci, artists incorporate robots, machines, software and other emerging technologies into installations and performances to challenge conventional wisdom and to explore new means of creative expression. Artists such as Roxy Paine, Jean Tinguely, Billy Kluver, Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, Stelarc, Paul McCarthy, Mark Pauline (SRL), Lynn Hershman, Natalie Jeremijenko, Michael Grey, Ken Rinaldo, Louis Philippe Demers, Bill Vorn, Simon Penny, Ken Goldberg, Chico MacMurtrie, Ruairi Glynn, Patricia Piccinini, Petra Gemeinboeck, Michael Wihart and Ingrid Bachmann use novel materials to radically expand the possibilities for expressive and interactive machines. Their artworks pioneer new techniques for designing expressive robots, while also challenging assumptions about the evolving relationship between humans and technology.

Invited Speakers (Confirmed)
Ingrid Bachmann – Concordia University, UK
Dr. Louis-Philippe Demers, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore
Dr. Ken Goldberg - University of California Berkeley, USA
Dr. Petra Gemeinboeck – UNSW, AUS
Jonas Jørgensen – IT University of Copenhagen, DK

Call for Abstracts
Abstracts are solicited in all areas of robots and art. In particular, we are looking for contributions that address the theme of creative approaches to compliance, including the use of soft materials, novel sensors and other artistic approaches to the development of the design and control of robots. Submissions with descriptions of works in progress or preliminary results are welcome and encouraged. Abstracts will be invited to be presented during Lighting Talks during the full-day forum, and will be archived on www.roboticart.org<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.roboticart.org&d=DwIGaQ&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=Q4RPM3zKU9bjlExzdejUgrXBLj9RU9meeHMWbBaQEh8&s=K_bBoK9k_Q-hqmGYsKU8OPwrVGjBkkNP_IANBGz73FQ&e=>
