The Physical Acoustics branch at the US Naval Research Laboratory in 
Washington, DC is looking for a Postdoctoral candidate with a background 
in either automated planning, perception, or machine learning for a 
position with the autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) group. The 
candidate will be performing research in combined task and motion 
planning for an AUV navigating in partially or fully unknown 
environments. The candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team 
comprised of researchers in the fields of robotics, underwater 
acoustics, oceanography, and artificial intelligence.

_*Minimum Qualifications: *_

  * PhD in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical
    Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, or similar fields.
  * Programming experience in C++, Matlab, Java, or Python
  * Strong publication record in robotics or artificial intelligence
  * Must be a US Citizen

*__*Desired Qualifications:*_

  * Experience implementing algorithms for one of the following research
    areas on board a fielded robot: combined task and motion planning,
    SLAM, multi-vehicle tracking, deep reinforcement learning
  * Experience with signal processing (acoustic, lidar, etc.)
  * Experience with extensive field trials (the candidate will
    participate in several at-sea experiments)

Postdoctoral positions typically last for 2-3 years. The stipend for the
