Description
===========

Complex robot behavior requires both discrete decisions and continuous
motions. Task-Motion Planning (TMP) combines discrete and continuous
decision-making and reasons about the interaction of these two
domains.

TMP is a currently active research topic with related work proceeding
in the robotics, AI, and formal methods communities. ICRA and IROS
have seen increasing numbers of TMP papers and IJRR is soliciting
contributions for a special issue on the topic. While work from
different groups is similar in broad aim or technique, the focus often
varies, e.g., between performing complex manipulation, finding optimal
solutions, or handling uncertainty. The differences in focus,
assumptions, and formats have resulted in significant challenges when
attempting to compare different TMP methods.

Objectives
==========

We hope that this workshop will lead to improved comparisons of TMP
approaches by making explicit differing assumptions, identifying
improvements to the benchmark set, and fixing suitable, standard
formats for TMP problems. This workshop is not intended as a
competition, as the current varying assumptions among TMP approaches
limit our ability to make direct comparisons. However, we hope to
ultimately use the results of this workshop to develop a future TMP
competition.

Topics
======

We invite researchers to present their latest results or ongoing work
during our poster session.  We are seeking two types of contributions:

1. Bechmarking of planners and/or critique of benchmarks
2. General contributions on Task and Motion Planning

Planner Benchmarking Submissions
--------------------------------

We are looking especially for submissions relating to benchmarking and
comparing Task and Motion planners.  Submissions may either present
results of the provided benchmark set or provide a commentary on the
benchmarks and how to produce better benchmark tests.

Topics include:

* Benchmark results of task and motion planners
* Appropriate benchmark problems for TMP
* Software tools for TMP
* Common formats for TMP

General Task and Motion Planning Submissions
--------------------------------------------

We encourage also submissions that address the following topics:

* Algorithms for TMP
* Appropriate feedback between task and motion planners
* Heuristics for task and motion planning
* Task or Motion Plan Caching and Re-use
* Execution and control of task and motion plans
* Uncertainty in task and motion systems
* Handling uncontrollable agents / Reactive Synthesis

Please submit a 1-2 page abstract in the RSS 2018 format via email to
2018-rss-workshop at dyalab.org by May 25, 2018.  Accepted contributions
will be notified by June 3, 2018
