Machine learning for improvement of control strategies for lower extremity prosthetics and orthotics
The Department for Trauma Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery and Plastic Surgery at the University Medical Center Göttingen (Germany) is currently recruiting one doctoral fellow position.
The post holder’s key responsibilities will be the development of computational models for the synthesis of human motor skills into advanced orthotic and prosthetic technologies for the lower extremities. In addition s/he will use machine learning for improvement of control strategies for lower extremity prosthetics and orthotics. This includes biomedical data acquisition, analysis and validation (in Opensim and Matlab) and development and implementation of machine learning algorithms.
The post holder will be enrolled at the University Medical Center Göttingen and work within the Department for Trauma Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery and Plastic Surgery (Applied Surgical and Rehabilitation Technology Lab: https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.neurorehabilitation-2Dsystems.de_1000_home_&d=DwIF-g&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=4uo19XR3eoUBbp_VRzEu1v6eFRo_jUVAYXfVLhdSpsY&s=eqBHQG37CxpFIRsHZnWYlooxviskxiOHoG4RoNDAAHs&e=). The position belongs to the INOPRO project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). This research consortium of 11 academic and industry partners aims at using novel mechanisms and strategies to design more intelligent prostheses and orthoses.
This position (TVL-13, 50%) is immediately available pending formal administrative approval and initially limited to 3 years.
The candidate must hold a master’s or an equivalent degree in Computer Engineering (with emphasis on machine learning), Biomechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, with previous highly relevant experience in the area of biomechanical modeling, musculoskeletal modeling and simulation and machine learning with application to wearable assistive technologies. Candidates must have advanced programming skills in MATLAB and Opensim. Excellent command of written and spoken English is essential.
This job represents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual with a team-oriented spirit and a high level of intellectual and scientific competence.
