The Advanced Robotics Research Line of Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia is seeking a highly motivated, full-time post-doc in the area of teleoperation and medical robotics.

** Description of the position **
The position is linked to ongoing projects in collaboration with large telecom companies developing and deploying 5G systems, including Ericsson and Vodafone. It will offer the opportunity to experiment with and contribute to the development of this new standard in telecommunications, and also to that of associated novel technologies that will benefit from it. 

The focus of this position will be on developing and implementing solutions for teleoperation and telementoring over 5G in the context of Robotic Surgery. These applications offer vast possibilities for research, including in frameworks for safety-critical real-time teleoperation; novel interfaces for mobile telesurgery and telemedicine; remote surgical robot control and automation; and many other topics.

The selected candidate will join a highly multidisciplinary research team and have the opportunity to collaborate closely with surgeons and the partner companies. The successful candidate will also have the possibility to contribute to the development of teleoperation systems for the new generation of mobile and remotely controlled robots of IIT's Department of Advanced Robotics, including quadrupeds and humanoids.

The successful candidate will be offered a fixed-term contract (24 months) with a highly competitive salary commensurable with qualifications and experience.

** About the ideal candidate **
We are looking to appoint a skilled and enthusiastic researcher with experience in the design and implementation of systems for robot teleoperation. The candidate should possess a PhD degree in engineering, computer science or related field and an excellent publication record.
Experience in one or more of the following areas will be considered a plus: Telecommunication systems, user interfaces, smart mobile devices, robot-assisted surgery, control systems and automation.
