The Advanced Manufacturing Automation Research Group at Siemens Corporate Technology located in Berkeley, California has currently three openings for Research Internships.

About the Advanced Manufacturing Automation Research Group:
In this research group, we shape the innovation roadmap towards the advanced manufacturing of the future; in collaboration with technology startups, leading academic institutions and government agencies. We are a team of automation-enthusiasts, innovators, engineers and scientists with deep technical expertise who are passionate about disruptive technologies in the areas of Robotics, Control, Machine Learning, and Optimization.



Description:

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with background in automation, optimization, embedded systems, robotics, AI, machine learning.



1)     Research Internship - Future of Automation

Description / Skills / Job Requirements include amongst others:

*        You will contribute to industrial research projects on simulation and advanced controls

*        You will collaborate and exchange ideas with experts in the fields of automation and control.

*        You will implement concepts and solutions in prototypes.

*        Experience with different kinds of simulators, e.g. Multiphysics, event-based, robotic kinematic simulation, etc.


Availability: As soon as possible.
Duration: Minimum three months.

2)     Research Internship - Embedded Artificial Intelligence in Automation

Description / Skills / Job Requirements include amongst others:

*        You will contribute to industrial research projects on applying machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to the design, simulation, operation and service of automation controllers and systems.

*        You will collaborate and exchange ideas with experts in the fields of automation and control.

*        You will implement concepts and solutions in prototypes.

*        Experience in Software and Algorithm Development for Embedded Devices

*        Strong fundamentals in machine learning concepts.

Duration: Minimum three months.

Description / Skills / Job Requirements include amongst others:

*        You will contribute to industrial research projects on applying machine learning for planning, control and state estimation in complex tasks performed industrial robots.

*        You will collaborate and exchange ideas with experts in the fields of automation and control.

*        You will implement concepts and solutions in prototypes.

*        knowledge on hardware architectures for AI applications

*        Experience in prototyping algorithms and working with robots using ROS necessary.

*        Outstanding programming knowledge in Python, and C++ Familiarity with deep learning tools (Caffe, Tensor Flow, Theano)

Duration: Minimum three months.
