Chair vacancy in the Department of Computer Science, University of Liverpool, UK.
Position: Chair in Computer Science
Closing date: 11 May, 2018
Job ref: 009080
The Department of Computer Science at the University of Liverpool is seeking an outstanding researcher in computer science who can contribute to strengthening the external collaborations and impact activities of the Department. You should have a PhD in Computer Science or a related subject and have an excellent track record of publications in internationally excellent journals and experience as principal investigator for substantial external research funding. You should also have experience in teaching both small and large groups and in the supervision of postgraduate students. We are seeking a candidate who will contribute to the Department's research strengths and who could expand the Department's research activities in: high performance computing, natural language processing, security or robotics. However, we will consider candidates whose research is not in these specific areas but whose profile would enable strengthening of our current research activities, specifically through development of our impact agenda and in alignment with the Virtual Engineering Centre (VEC). A major part of the role for this Chair position is academic involvement at senior level with the VEC, which is a partnership between the University of Liverpool, the Science and Technology Facilities Council and other industrial partners. The VEC provides expertise in the development and integration of Virtual Engineering technologies, including advanced modelling, simulation and visualisation to meet industrial challenges. Whilst the main site of the VEC is located in Daresbury, the Chair will be based at the University of Liverpool, which also hosts one of the VEC's labs on site.
The School of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Computer Science is an Athena SWAN Bronze Award holder. We are working to create an inclusive environment which values a diverse workforce and we strongly encourage applications from groups under-represented within our workforce, in particular, women.
