Project: Probabilistic and Neural Control Mechanisms in Robot Learning

Robotics is a vastly growing field with enormous potential for
autonomous intelligent assistants in everyday tasks. One of the major
unsolved challenges however is to compute decisions and control signals
in few milliseconds from a huge stream of uncertain sensory
observations. The goal of this project is to develop novel probabilistic
evidence integration and control algorithms based on neural networks. A
key feature of the models is the ability to maintain and continuously
update multiple action strategies for realtime control to quickly adapt
to changing environmental conditions. The algorithms will be tested in
challenging and exciting human robot interaction tasks for manipulation,
grasping and navigation.

Requirements: Students (m/f) with a master's degree (or equivalent) in
computer science, mathematics, physics or engineering are invited to
apply. A strong background in robotics, mathematics or machine learning
is highly desirable. Excellent programming skills, analytical problem
solving and organizational abilities are required.
