Krypto Labs, a global innovation hub with a unique ecosystem for funding ground-breaking startups, is announcing the Drone X Challenge (DXC); a US$1.5 Million Global Challenge (US$1 Million Final Prize and US$500K in R&D Grants) that is pushing the frontiers of R&D and innovation in drone technologies.

DXC aims to accelerate the practical deployment of drones/UAVs in key applications focusing on transportation and delivery. DXC will support innovative solutions that tackle two major challenges: payload capacity and flight endurance.

DXC is open to entrepreneurs, start-ups, R&Ds, university students and companies. DXC requires the participants to design and develop a drone within one of the categories listed below and fly the drone to demonstrate the minimum required payload and endurance capabilities in an innovative commercial application.


  *   Fixed-wing drones battery powered
  *   Fixed-wing drones hydrocarbon/hybrid powered
  *   Multi-rotor drones battery powered
  *   Multi-rotor drones hydrocarbon/hybrid powered


The overall challenge timeline is divided into 3 phases and a final event. During the challenge, teams will have to design, develop and demonstrate their drone systems according to the specifications of the chosen category.

  *   Phase I - Drone Design Proposal: Teams should submit a technical proposal, detailing all the aspects of the drone design, and how the drone system can be used in an innovative commercial application.
  *   Phase II - Develop an MVP: Teams should develop a drone based on the proposed design, capable of achieving the minimum payload and endurance requirements of the selected category.
  *   Phase III - Demonstrate: Teams should demonstrate the utilization of the developed drone in an innovative commercial application.


  *   Phase I: US$200,000 Incentive Grants
  *   Phase II: US$300,000 Incentive Grants
  *   Final Prize: US$1 Million for 1 Final Winner during the Event Day


  *   January 10, 2019 Applications deadline for Phase I
  *   February 10, 2019 Announcement of R&D Grants’ winners for Phase I

  *   April 2019 Applications deadline for Phase II
  *   July 2019 Announcement of R&D Grants’ winners for Phase II

  *   September 2019 Applications deadline for Phase III
  *   February 2020 Final participating Team Selection

  *   Spring 2020 Final Day Event – Final Winner Announcement
