Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU), invites applications for funded PhD positions (starting as soon as January 2019) in the areas of soft wearable assistive devices, and soft robotics. The position is open for motivated candidates with a background (BS/MS) in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or related field. It is expected that mechanical design, material science, soft robotics, human-machine interface design, biomechanics, device characterization and optimization as well as analytical/experimental mechanics will be key features of the research.

Candidates with a broad range of technical skills and a track record in translating conceptual ideas into working prototypes will be strongly considered. Evidence of an ability to work in collaborative teams and good communication skills (oral and written) is essential. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to publish scholarly papers and attend international conferences, as well as take on a mentorship role for undergraduate students, and act as a teaching assistant in related courses.
