MIT SPARK Lab: Postdoc Opportunity on Visual-Inertial Navigation in Challenging Visual Conditions

The SPARK (Sensing, Perception, Autonomy, and Robot Kinetics) Lab, directed by Prof. Luca Carlone, works at the bleeding edge of robotics and autonomous systems research. The lab develops the algorithmic foundations of robotics through the innovative design, rigorous analysis, and real-world testing of algorithms for single and multi-robot systems. A major goal of the lab is to enable human-level perception, world understanding, and navigation on mobile robotics platforms (micro aerial vehicles, self-driving vehicles, and ground robots).

Job Description

The postdoctoral research will focus on robust localization and accurate 3D reconstruction in real-time and in adversarial environments. The postdoc is expected to be a key technical figure in the DARPA challenge. The position will give the candidate international visibility and will allow her/him to collaborate with a world-class team of experts in systems/software/algorithms, working on a spectrum of topics from very applied to very theoretical. The ideal candidate will perform rigorous robotics research and implement/test visual-inertial navigation and visual-SLAM algorithms on real platforms.

Your Skills

  *   Ph.D. in a field related to vision-based navigation, SLAM, or multi-robot mapping
  *   Strong coding experience (C++, ROS)
  *   Experience with deployment and testing of SLAM algorithms on real robots
  *   A passion for computer vision, robotics, mathematics, programming and abstract thinking
  *   Excellent written and spoken English skills

Starting Date
Between January 1st and March 1st 2019. The evaluation of the received applications starts on December 1 and will continue until the position is filled.
