The YCB Object and Model Set is designed for facilitating benchmarking in robotic manipulation. The set consists of objects of daily life with different shapes, sizes, textures, weight, and rigidity, as well as some widely used manipulation tests. The goal of the YCB Set is to enable the community of robotic manipulation researchers to more easily compare approaches as well as continually evolve benchmarking tests as the field matures. The set is associated with a model database which provides mesh models and high-resolution RGB-D scans of the objects for easy incorporation into manipulation and planning software platforms.

The YCB Object Set consists of 77 objects divided into 5 categories: food items, kitchen items, tool items, shape items, and task items. Since the inception of the YCB Object Set, over 130 kits have been delivered to robot manipulation research groups around the world, and it is becoming a standard part of performance evaluation schemes in the field. Since 2019, the New England Robotics Validation and Experimentation (NERVE) Center at the University of Massachusetts Lowell has taken over distribution of the physical object sets in collaboration with the project organizers.
