The University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography is seeking a
post-doc researcher with expertise in marine robotics and Simultaneous
Localization and Mapping (SLAM). This person will join a project working
with side-scan sonar data, path planning, and target recognition. The broad
aims of the project are to enable autonomous mapping and target
reacquisition using sonar data collected by vehicles with different sensor
suites and navigational capabilities. Up to two years of support are
available. The preferred qualifications and experience include:

-Underwater vehicle navigation
-Path planning 
-Machine learning for automated feature detection and description
-Sonar data processing
-Programming experience in Python or C++
-Prior experience with ROS or LCM.  

The position will also entail working with the OceanExploration Trust (OET)

Rhode Island, OET executes a yearly ocean exploration field program based on
the EV Nautilus. The post-doc position will include at-sea time on EV
Nautilus and a role developing the program’s seafloor mapping and visual
imaging capabilities. This will entail participating in expeditions,
collecting data at sea with the Hercules remotely operated vehicle and
further developing software tools for data processing.
