2020 IEEE Haptics Symposium

March 28-31 in Washington, DC, USA

The IEEE Haptics Symposium is a vibrant forum for research in perception,
engineering, and design, focused on sharing new advances in our
understanding of the sense of touch, sparking new collaborations, and
envisioning a future in which physical interactions are enriched through
haptic technologies.

In 2020, this four-day conference will be held in Washington D.C. and will
showcase an array of exciting contributions:

We seek exciting submissions in the following categories, as described
below and overviewed at https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__2020.hapticssymposium.org_presenting&d=DwIFaQ&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=MLAUgetAuv1scphV89m8zfmR-GfjOWhWsj1fsu_AJRc&s=zCHwKjDD-Z81n0HvS4bIpj14vgBeHGrAVILU_BOzmM0&e=

- Work-in-Progress Papers (Due Jan. 31, 2020)

- Hands-On Demonstrations (Due Jan. 31, 2020)

CONFERENCE TECHNICAL PAPER DECISIONS - December 30, 2019 (Extended from
Dec. 23, 2019)

Conference Technical Papers are currently under review by the Conference
Program Committee and Editorial Board. In order to ensure a fair and
comprehensive review, the date on which decisions will be communicated to
authors has been extended by one week. Authors will receive notifications
about the outcome of the reviews on December 30, 2019. Camera-ready
versions of accepted papers will be due in late January. Details will be
provided in an email sent to authors of accepted papers.

WORK-IN-PROGRESS PAPERS - Due January 31, 2020

Work-in-Progress Papers enable authors to share late-breaking results with
the research community. The emphasis of WIP papers is on the novelty of the
work, rather than completeness. These short papers will be presented in a
single-track poster session that will not be held in parallel with any
podium or demo sessions. Accepted WIP papers will be included in the
conference proceedings, but they will not be published in IEEE Xplore.
Authors retain the full copyright of WIP papers so that they can submit a
more mature version of the paper at a later time.

WIP papers should be prepared according to the formatting instructions
available on the conference website. Authors should aim for a submission
length of two pages; one extra page may be added through a charge of $200,
paid during conference registration. We encourage authors to include a
video to help readers understand the WIP paper. Videos associated with
accepted WIP papers may be used to promote the conference.

To submit a WIP paper or to obtain additional information, please go to

Address questions about WIP papers to the Work-in-Progress Chair (Heather
Culbertson) at wip at hapticssymposium.org.

HANDS-ON DEMONSTRATIONS - Due January 31, 2020

Hands-on demonstrations are a crucial and popular component of haptics
conferences. Multiple demonstrations sessions will be held at the
conference to enable greater sharing of developments in different areas of
haptics. We welcome demonstrations that showcase novel haptic devices,
software, applications, or experiments. Authors of technical papers and WIP
papers are particularly encouraged to apply for demonstration space to
support their presentation.

Demonstration proposals should be prepared according to the formatting
instructions available on the conference website. Authors will submit a one
page formatted document, along with a separate 100-word abstract. As well,
authors are required to submit a video, which may also be used for
promotion at the conference and on social media sites. Proposals will be
reviewed to ensure the relevance of the work, novelty, and absence of any
commercial content.

Accepted demonstrations are strongly encouraged to have more than one
person at the demo space during this session, to enable that the
demonstrations stick to the schedule whilst still allowing technical
discussions to take place. If it is not possible to have more than one
person present, then the demonstrator may contact the demo chairs in
advance of the conference to request assistance from a student volunteer.

To submit a proposal for a hands-on demonstration or to obtain additional
information, please go to https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__2020.hapticssymposium.org_presenting_demos&d=DwIFaQ&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=MLAUgetAuv1scphV89m8zfmR-GfjOWhWsj1fsu_AJRc&s=TSPQoM6UL6_Fn8nyRqfcMLtHaScbHmo0Oj5JktKeaL4&e=

Registration for the conference is now open! Full registration includes
the first day of cross-cutting challenge sessions and three days of oral
presentations, poster presentations, demos, and exhibits, plus a welcome
reception and a seated banquet dinner. Registrants can add additional
banquet tickets, and pay extra page charges for technical papers and WIP
papers. We also offer one-day registration.

Details about registration and a link to the registration site are
available at https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__2020.hapticssymposium.org_attending_registration_&d=DwIFaQ&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=MLAUgetAuv1scphV89m8zfmR-GfjOWhWsj1fsu_AJRc&s=XbbPetKcnnkc2msfG96-Abnk7WEuK45TQtSy1z-POeM&e=

Discounted rates are available for IEEE members, Technical Committee on
Haptics (TCH) members, and students. This year there are discounted rates
for early bird (January 31, 2020) and standard (February 21, 2020)
registration options. All accepted conference technical papers,
Transactions on Haptics short papers, work-in-progress posters,
Transactions on Haptics posters, demonstrations, and cross-cutting
challenges must be presented in person. At least one presenting author must
register by February 21, 2020 for accepted contributions to be included in
the conference proceedings and be presented at the event.

Anyone who needs a letter of invitation for a visa to travel to the
conference should make a request immediately following the instructions
