(apologies for cross postings)

Applications are open for one postdoc research position (contract) at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, to develop novel research work on the topic of multi-UAV cooperative navigation.

   Deadline: 1-March-2019
Duration of the grant: 30 months (full time)
Place: IST Alameda campus, Lisbon, Portugal

The selected candidate will work on a project of SaR operations in scenarios of nuclear disaster, encompassing a fleet of drones. The project include the three main tasks: (1) real-time mapping of the scenario with the quantification of the contamination levels, (2) autonomous and cooperative navigating a fleet of autonomous drones, covering this area in an optimal way, in closed loop with the real-time construction of the contamination map, while maintaining exposure of the drones to radiation at a safe level, and (3) assuring an effective and resilient wireless data communication among the drones and the ground station. The selected candidate shall have expertise, at least, for one of these tasks and he/she will work with the support of 3 MSc grantees, each one from a different research lab, with expertise for the different tasks.

The research work will be carried out in the context of a fully funded 3-year R&D project, in collaboration with different research labs with expertise in robotics, nuclear physics, and communications. High-quality scientific publications and participation on scientific conferences are expected during the lifetime of the project.

Requirements: the candidates are expected to hold a Doctoral degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Technological Physics Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
