University Academic Fellow in AI
(Tenure Track, leading to Associate Professor in 5 years)
School of Computing, University of Leeds

Are you an experienced and ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have a strong research background in Artificial Intelligence? Do you want to further your career in a world-leading, research-intensive Russell Group University? This is a research focussed position leading to a permanent position as Associate Professor by the end of the 5 year probationary period.

With a vision and drive to contribute to a World-Leading research portfolio, as well as a passion for undertaking research-led teaching, you will make a significant impact on the performance, stature and profile of research and student education at The University of Leeds.

The School of Computing has a long-standing reputation in Artificial Intelligence research and education. Our research is broadly based, covering several areas of robotics and artificial intelligence. Through this diversity we are playing a leading role in the global trend towards the re-integration of artificial intelligence, particularly in developing synergies between the areas of computer vision, knowledge representation and reasoning, machine learning, robotics, bio-inspired systems, natural language processing, and augmentation of human intelligence. The University is a partner in The Alan Turing Institute, the national institute for data science and artificial Intelligence, with the mission to make great leaps in research to change the world for the better.

This position is part of a strategic initiative to extend the depth and breadth of our activity across the University, through collaboration with other disciplinary areas, including medicine, engineering, finance, environmental sciences, and humanities. This recognises the growing importance of Artificial Intelligence in many areas of academic research, particularly through the application of deep learning and others areas of machine learning. For this reason, we particularly welcome applications from researchers working in the area of machine learning.

Career Pathway: Tenure track equivalent post requiring successful completion of a 5 year development plan, leading to appointment to a grade 9 Associate Professor, with the potential for accelerated progression.
