DESCRIPTION OF THE OPPORTUNITY
A Research Fellowship position is available at the Institute of Systems and Robotics - University of Coimbra (www.isr.uc.pt), Portugal, in the scope of the project “SEMFIRE – Safety, Exploration and Maintenance of Forests with Ecological Robotics”, funded by the Portugal 2020 program, under the reference CENTRO-01-0247-FEDER-032691.
SEMFIRE addresses fire prevention, by proposing the development of a robotic system to reduce fuel accumulation (e.g., forest debris), thus assisting in landscaping maintenance task. SEMFIRE is an interdisciplinary projects that benefits from innovative technologies and modern ecological robotic approaches. Focus is placed in the development of a multi-robot system, combined with pervasive local positioning, multi-robot navigation and coordination in forests, and an innovative artificial perception architecture.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
The eligible candidates must hold a **M.Sc. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, or in Computer Science obtained in a university located in a country that is a member of the European Higher Education Area (i.e. in a country that ratified the Bolonha process)**, and must have **nationality from a country belonging to the Schengen Area, or hold a passport containing a travel visa to remain or live in a country belonging to the Schengen Area**. The candidates must have high oral and written proficiency in English.

PROFILE OF PROSPECTIVE CANDIDATES
The ideal candidate would have: excellent software development skills in C++, Python and Linux OS; solid experience in software development using ROS (Robot Operating System); experience in computer vision, machine learning and pattern recognition; excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills; and high motivation to get involved in the SEMFIRE project.
