Several Funded Ph.D. Graduate Research Assistantships and MS positions are available with a start in Summer or Fall of 2019 for work on new grants in AgRobotics and CPS in the Collaborative Robotics Lab in the School of Engineering Technology at Purdue University, West Lafayette.
Highly capable candidates with degrees in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer disciplines are encouraged to
apply. The ideal candidates for funded positions will have a profound interest in both fundamental and
applied research in Robotics and a strong history of prior projects and prior publications, particularly IROS, ICRA and other IEEE conferences. Candidates interested in networking systems for the new field of Precision Animal Agriculture, particularly monitoring cows in a dairy farm environment, body sensor networks and inertial measurement of animal movement and activity encouraged to apply.

Qualifications: B.S. in Engineering or a related field, M.S. preferred. Self-motivated individuals with a high
degree of curiosity and creativity and an interest in innovation and entrepreneurship are particularly sought.
Strong critical thinking skills a must! Demonstrated ability to write about and publish your work in scholarly publications.

Funding for MS positions to truly exceptional candidates, only.

Several opportunities exist with National Laboratories, so U.S. citizens are strongly encouraged to apply.

To maximize your chances of success, candidates must examine my "student expectations" page at https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__web.ics.purdue.edu_-7Ervoyles_student-5Fexpectations.html&d=DwIFAg&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=IINjQYwymGrYby1BkidgMaNsMxTVWw5bZ8uy6dREyyY&s=NzcyKK5UY0HqjOSmyj3lOMXaE9HkLjqdQNELYNKbYT4&e=

(1) strong communication and presentation skills, with an appreciation for communicating the value of your work

(2) Mechatronic systems design and a mix of implementation and theoretical knowledge

(3) Programming in Matlab/Simulink and/or C/C++ for data acquisition and signal processing, real-time feedback control, networking

(4) Evidence of good debugging skills a strong plus

IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to the time criticality of this project, particularly for potential foreign students that need to seek a visa, it is important to apply to the Purdue grad school as soon as possible for serious consideration!
When applying for the PhD, first select "Polytechnic Institute" and then, for program, select "Engineering Technology".
Include my name and your interest in robotics in your statement of purpose.

Purdue is unique among American universities in that it has separate colleges of Engineering, Science and Technology (Polytechnic Institute). Aspects of robotics are explored in 15 different departments and the Purdue Robotics Accelerator brings all these disciplines together under one virtual roof. Purdue has one of the largest international student communities in the U.S. and provides an excellent environment for international students as well as US citizens.

I cannot estimate your likeliness of funding until I see your entire package. See my "student expectations"
page, above. I welcome comments and questions, but please copy eoms at purdue.edu<mailto:eoms at purdue.edu> on the email and use subject line "PhD/MS candidate for CRL AgRobotics".
