Advances and Challenges on the Development, Testing and Assessment of 
Internet of Robotic Things (IoRT): Experiences from Engineering and 
Human Science Research

For the last decades service robots has achieved a phenomenon 
improvement gaining popularity in various areas spanning from homelife, 
travelling, medical to education. Efficiently combining with Internet of 
Things (IoT) systems, the consolidation promises revolutionizing 
potential with the later providing large quantity of information 
services over pervasive networks, enabling intelligent devices to use 
both local and distributed ’intelligence’ for optimized action, 
interaction and autonomous behaviour.

The purpose of this workshop therefore emphasizes on providing a common 
forum for sharing ideas and experiences relating to the topic of 
Internet of Robotic Things (IoRT) on assistant robots regarding 
development, testing and assessment from both robotics and IoT 
communities. Discussion also further expands on state-of-art 
technologies and addressing challenges for identifying both approaches, 
solutions and potentials to fulfilling society’s demands that utilizes 
on the IoT-robotics convergence.

We invite you to submit extended abstracts (2-3 pages) to the ICRA 2019 
Full Day Workshop on "Advances and Challenges on the Development, 
Testing and Assessment of Internet of Robotic Things (IoRT): Experiences 
from Engineering and Human Science Research" to be held at the 2019 IEEE 
International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), Montreal, 
Canada, May 23rd or 24th, 2019.

Expected contributions should be submitted in the form of extended 
abstracts (max 2 pages) in IEEE Conference paper format. Submissions 
should be in PDF format (<5MB). Please send the paper to Cheng ZHANG 
(cheng.zhang at ieee.org) by 1 April 2019. Accepted papers will be 
presented at the workshop in a poster session, with short oral 
presentations (teaser). Outstanding contributions may be selected for 
full oral presentations. Selected accepted papers will also be 
considered for inclusion in a journal special issue that will be 
proposed on the topics covered by the workshop.

Submissions will be accepted as either a:
- presentation or
- teaser and poster presentation.

Submission deadline:  1 April 2019
Notification of acceptance:  20 April 2019
Workshop Date:  24 May 2019

The workshop topics include (but are not limited to) the following:

  - IoT technologies that enhance service robots’ capability

  - Computation offloading / Service migration on IoT robot system

  - Rehabilitation robotics with IoT applications

  - Physically assistive devices / Wearable robotics / Welfare 
technology combined with IoT technologies

  - Internet of Robotic Things in transportation
