The School of Engineering, University of Edinburgh, as part of The Edinburgh Centre for Robotics (ECR), invites applications for one full-time Research Associate in Offshore Robotics to join the EPSRC funded Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (RAI) hub: ORCA Hub.

The Research Associate in Offshore Robotics position targets cutting-edge research in the area of Autonomous Offshore Robotics. In particular, the candidate will investigate underwater navigation, positioning and manipulation in dynamic environments. A major challenge for marine robotic systems, both top-side and subsea, is the presence of disturbances caused by waves, sea currents and wind loading while deploying sensors onto structures that may be moving. We will study these interactions to improve controllability and station-keeping.

The post holder will collaborate with 4 Research Associates at IES and IMNS who investigate advanced control algorithms for positioning and station-keeping and low-cost mobile sensor networks, as well as low-power local/global communications for underwater autonomous vehicles.

Deadline for Application: 10th April 2019

Post Duration: 12 months
